about

This is the absolute beginning of Goodnight, Texas - 10 wild years ago.

Before we picked our band name, we played as P. Wolf and Avi, mostly as a duo but sometimes with the help of our friends Andrew Laubacher and Jonathan Kirchner. This tour was the first time we tried playing as a full band for part of the set.

This album is the first ever release of our early live song 'Heaven and Hell' one of the songs where we first honed our harmonies. Back then we were still developing our sound but starting to play songs about history: Walt Whitman, I Killed Robert Johnson, the Italian protest song Bella Ciao. We debuted 2 new songs that would end up on A Long Life of Living: Submarines and Harmony. We played songs off our then-new album Coattails. It was an incredibly fun time for us as we put together Goodnight, Texas as you now know it.

This time capsule was recorded and mixed live by Shalom Aberle and mastered by Jonathan Kirchner. Eddie's Attic in Atlanta is such a special place, and opening our friend Kelly McFarling's hometown show was such a treat.

about

Goodnight, Texas San Francisco, California

Goodnight, Texas is the garage roots Appalachian collaboration of San Francisco’s Avi Vinocur (formerly of The Stone Foxes) and North Carolina’s Patrick Dyer Wolf.
The band conjures a feeling of a different heavy era in the United States - part 1930s, and part 1860s. The trick: heaviness comes from organic acoustic instruments. In this case, a banjo, acoustic guitar and a 1918 mandolin.
